We all have someone on our gift list who we REALLY want to please with our creative and thoughtful gift. This is an example of how a client in Arizona found the perfect gift for his wife on their 50th wedding anniversary. All of our communication about this project was done by phone, text and email. First, he considered a custom pendant but after taking a stealthy peek in his wife's jewelry box, he realized that she rarely wore the pieces she had there and upon reflection, she really did not wear jewelry often.
Thankfully, he did not give up his wish to have something made for her. We discussed her interests and decided to focus on her love of bird watching. The result was a piece that required the collaboration of three more artists. I call it the "In Flight" Anniversary Bowl.
Every element of the "In Flight" Anniversary Bowl was created by artists. I designed the piece and created the lovely bird handle with blue opalized petrified wood stones from Indonesia. Dallas artist, Ingrid Geisler (my step daughter and accomplished wood artist), turned the broadleaf maple bowl. The glass work on the lid was done by Winnsboro, TX artist, Marianne Reavis, The personal message and date of the anniversary on the underside of the lid (not shown) was hand engraved by Laura Dewoody Jewelers.
The gift was a huge success with both husband and wife!
There are photos below of a few of other unusual commissioned pieces created for women and men who wanted something a little different.
Fun, funky, classic, it's up to you. Don't be afraid to commission something different!
